These were some of my favorite sketches from that old sketchbook last year. Combined to make an awesome hand shrine thing pointing to a David Bowie type creature. Oh and a little Lord of the Rings tag down there.

Originally from a 1 minute sequential pose set. I loved the way it turned out so much I finally got the chance to mess with it. First tombow, then photoshop.

The few interesting things I did in Vis Dev for Video Games 1. Something I learned in this class... I don't think I have what it takes to design video game characters. I like subtle and I certainly don't have much of an eye for drawing ultra mechanical robots. Oh well.

Layout 2011

It's taken a while, but I finally got around to editing these for posting. These were the best layout drawings I came up with this last semester. I've never worked so hard for a class in my life and I hope that the work ethic I learned last year will carry over into my professional life. Thank you to so many people that got me through the struggle, you know who you are. I have to thank Oliver Sin by name though. That guy is amazing and I would recommend him to anyone as a teacher. Enjoy!

I finally finished this thing. I've been working on it all week, I think I'm about satisfied with it. I think it took so long because all I've been doing is piling textures on top of each other, masking, editing, a little painting. Basically it's just a big 'ol blue experimental explosion.

All the stuff in this post is homework/studio work from my Character Design for Cartoons class. Last post was last semester, this one is all stuff from my character design class so far from this semester! We do a lot of drawings to practice getting animated characters down quickly and sich. It was hard choosing these very select few out of the hundreds of drawings I have. But sorry if it seems like an overload. Enjoy if you can!

Here's a bunch of stuff from last semester I never got around to putting up here. Most is from Clothed figure 2, and there's 3 or so watercolors from Illustration 2.

This is the one I was proud of that I did at the costume carnival last semester/year. I love me some pastels.

Finally finished! A huge thanks to Sjbernshizzle for the wonderful computer I was able to complete this on. It seriously makes the biggest difference of my life. Anyway, I thought I would just do this as if it were something I was doodling in my sketchbook except painted. I love working with text and graphic shapes over something fairly realistic. Which reminds me, I should upload some of my latest sketches that inspired this. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy!

Hey guys, long time no see, eh? These are all from my Illustration 1 class over the summer. Enjoy!

This was the first illustration we had, just an exercise with value and pattern.

This one was a montage. This one's my favourite. I might color it.

This is the inked version for my final project - the graphic novel page. This one is based off of lyrics from that famous Cage The Elephant song: Ain't No Rest For The Wicked. I didn't put the text in yet, still thinking about how exactly I'm wording it.

And this one is the colored page. Watered down gouache and pen. That's all.

This one was the narrative illustration. So this one is on Persephone from them greek myths. Haven't gotten a chance to shoot a nice quality picture of this one but I will.

And this one, my least favourite... the editorial. It's on that tragedy that happened in Germany. About 400 people were trampled, 20 or so were killed because of an overcrowding at a festival. It was supposed to go on the cover for the New Yorker.

Massive update of sketchesss

Dear peoples,
This semester, I feel like I've learned more than I've EVER learned, ever. I know that sounds a little ridiculous, but it's true. Even in highschool, I never had the kind of epiphany I've had this year. The fact that all I ever want to do is go to workshops really says something. The past year and a half before this semester I really didn't go to them at all because I thought they were help for the desperate. But really, the people who are serious about graduating and succeeding are all there. I've met so many incredible people at the workshops, it's ridiculous. If any of you see this, you're all my inspiration for improvement this semester. I love you guys and I'm so glad I got to meet you. These sketches are all from the 4 workshops a week I went to this semester. Enjoy, and any questions, feedback, or praise is always welcomed.

So, exciting news in the sketch world. I just edited a whole lot of stuff so it's computer friendly, so my next update will be absolutely grand. However, I'm exhausted from all of this, and I want to accompany my update with a heartfelt review of my semester. I absolutely cannot do this while I'm feeling like such crap. I hope you don't mind. :)

Oh hello there peoples. Some more arts I did this week.

3 minute quickstudies.

20 minute reclining pose study

30 minute exercise on perspective and angles

Another 20 minute reclining study

And this one is a 2 week painting exploring a new technique. First week was only monochromatic using turp to pull out whites and linseed oil and liquin to keep the paint wet and sketchy. I wish I had a picture of it from the first week, it looked like a charcoal drawing. Second week was just glazing over with color and painting more opaquely. I really like the way it came out. :)

HEADS

Just an update full of heads. So many heads lately. Oh just wait until I update my heads and hands sketchbook at the end of the semester. 100 heads and 100 hands! But for now, just a few.

This first one is kind of an edit/update because I fixed the painting of Deirdra a little bit after critique. Made her look less "grossed out", gave her head more mass and filled out her face and neck a little more. I think it looks a bit more like her now.

And here's a bunch of 5 minute drawings from Clothed Figure.

I think this one was 10 minutes. We were supposed to be looking up at the figure but some of my proportions are a little silly on this one.

And then this one was a self portrait for Heads and Hands. Worked on from a mirror.

So here's a bunch of school stuff from this semester! I'm almost up to date. Maybe 3 more posts and I'll be posting things from each week. I've been drawing so much I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up and I definitely can't post everything. :| But I'll certainly try.

Here's our first homework assignment. Flour sacs!

A 10 minute doodle I liked. The following are all done on 16x24 newsprint. (I think that's the right size)

I didn't really like the model so I idealized her a bit... But that's okay. The results turned out alright. I'm getting much better at line quality and proportions. Here I'm doing some under-drawings, but right now in class I've eliminated them all together. It's such a great feeling when practice pays off.

I loved this girl. She had such great rhythm.

Here are some still lives that I've done in the past year. I'm slowly learning a technique that I'm comfortable with, I'd have to say all of these are studies. I used a technique that was inbetween dry and wet that looks pretty smooth, but towards the end of these I had more of a wet technique. Sadly, some of my paintings are at home with the family so I didn't have a chance to scan them in and share. I will one day.

I think I gave this one to my Grandma for Christmas. Good times. On a 11x14 canvas.

WOO METAL, that doesn't really look like metal because I used so much blue. Oh well. 11x14

Glass, my favorite. The idea of this one was 'brandy and cigarettes washed down with a coke'. A very pessimistic painting, heh. 18x24

This is one of my favorites for sure. I used a wood panel rather than canvas, and I really liked the smooth texture. 9x12

And this one I did this year. My first assignment for 'figure painting', oh boy. 14x17

Here are some more finished ones I liked from last semester.

Would you just look at this man's bum? Yes it is a man. With a very sculpted everything.

This is the same guy but from the front. Perfect features. I couldn't even come close to doing him justice. That's my goal to one day draw Kurt perfectly and hang it in my room. :3

This is probably one of my favorite pen drawings I've done. We had about an hour to finish it, so I tried to take my time.

And here's my final project for Intermediate Figure Drawing..... The fantasy portrait! I had so much fun with this, as you can probably tell. I researched a lot of anatomy to separate the face correctly and I looked up some bird skulls. It's me as a zombie. :B

This was another one of my pen drawings I really liked. I didn't really like the model that much so I just used the pose as a reference and changed a few things.

And now that that's over *whew* I'll be posting stuff from this semester, yay.

Getting closer to current events now. These are all from last semester. Experimenting with graphite, ball point pen, and ink pen. I felt quite a bit of improvement from 3rd semester to 4th. Just letting all the information sit over summer did some good for me I suppose.

I love Bob. He has the best shapes. And those hippie glasses are just so classic.

Lloyd. Did this one with a mechanical pencil. Pretty tedious, but I like the sketchy effect.

A sketch of one of my characters. I never usually try to draw realistic faces from memory, but that day was just one of those days. This one's recent, I felt like after all of these silly messy sketches from years ago, you have to at least have a peek at how I'm doing now.

My beloved druid Katzi. I have a ton of WoW sketches.... but I'll spare you. :P This one's my favorite mostly because of the colors.
And now on to more school stuff.

I sketched these sculptures by Rodin at the Legion of Honor last year. I love that sculpture of "The Kiss" and I've always wanted to draw it. It's based off of a circle of hell in Dante's Inferno. Pretty intense stuff.

This was sometime shortly after I was learning how to get better at line quality and gesture. You'll start to see my improvements pretty soon. These are the last of my Anatomy class and next post will be my Intermediate Figure drawing!

HERE HAVE A PAINTING! I'll start posting one of these too.... From my still life painting class. There's kind of a crappy glare on it, but you get the gist of it, right? Oh and.... *whispers* if you know anyone that wants a simple painting like this hanging in their house somewhere, I'm willing to take time out of my busy week and be paid a moderate amount to paint one, or sell one of the ones I already have. *wink wink nudge nudge*

Here, have a painting today :) I'm pretty proud of this one. It was the first time I actually tried to figure out how to digitally paint correctly. I'm quite a bit better now if I do say so myself, but I'm pretty proud of this attempt. This is a character I made and did NOT stick with, unfortunately. It was based off of this adorable asian girl I saw on the bus. I may do something with her (whom I named Jaqueline) in the future. Enjoy!

This is a painted version of one of the sketches I did below. It was a quick test to learn how to digitally paint a little better and proper use of textures. Still working on it, but I like her enough and I'll probably doodle her a lot more.

Thar's the zombie sketch.

I'm really bad about drawing the same face over and over and over again, so this was a study on different face shapes. I like the last one a LOT. Someone pointed out that they look like Twilight characters. That's cool, but no. Not my intention at ALL.

Pokemon kick a while ago. I'm on one right now, so you'll probably see some of those silly pokeman sketches pretty soon.

I've FINALLY decided to post some sketches. I've been going to a local coffee shop almost every day since I've been back in SF just to draw and digitally paint, but today I got really discouraged. I spent almost 4 hours painting something and I absolutely hate it. I need to take a break and remember that I do know how to draw. I drew these all with graphite and pen and edited them a little in PS for tone. These are pretty old... I'm starting from about a year or so ago.
